Virginia Blood Services is inviting its donors to “triple” the impact of their blood donations from Nov. 27-Dec. 8 by bringing along a non-perishable food item to donate to FeedMore. In addition to transporting the food items, Virginia Blood Services also will donate $1 to FeedMore for each participating donor during the drive.

The Henrico County Library system is seeking book donations to provide to the Henrico Christmas Mother, whose season starts Dec. 4. All Henrico libraries have donation boxes, where visitors can donate new or gently used children’s and teen books. All books that are in good shape will be accepted. The Henrico Christmas Mother Program relies on hundreds of volunteers and thousands of donors to provide new clothes, toys, books and food to more than 6,000 Henrico County residents who need assistance during the holiday season, including low-income families, adults with disabilities and the elderly.

Henrico's Jack Kreuter Jewelers is closing its doors and holding a multimillion-dollar, going-out-of-business sale through next week at its 6231 River Road location. The weeklong event begins Nov. 21 at 10 a.m. “Saying goodbye isn’t easy,” said Jack Kreuter. “This is one of the most difficult decisions I’ve ever had to make, but this time I’m ready to retire.” Kreuter said he had considered retiring when he stepped down from his position as president of Schwarzschild Jewelers in 1994. However, after a yearlong sabbatical, he realized the decision was premature and instead opened his own store.

Two northbound lanes of Brook Road near Athens Avenue will be closed while crews repair a broken water main. The left northbound lane of Brook will remain open. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the area. The Henrico County Department of Public Utilities expects to complete the repairs and reopen the right and center northbound lanes of Brook by 5 p.m. Water service to customers is not disrupted.
